Ok just finished reading Amitav Ghosh 'Sea of Poppies', the first in the Ibis trilogy. What really stood out for me which is why I'm documenting it here is the version of 'Hindoostanee' that the English in this book speak which is a sort of transalation/bastardisation of 'Oordoo/Hindi'.
