Random musings

I've not posted in a bit - mainly coz I've been too busy with life!! So I've been thinking [yes, I do that as well]...... I never prescribed to the theory that people write when they are unhappy or unfulfilled but it seems to be true for me also - when I had less to do or I was not so occupied, I wrote a lot more. Nowadays, I'm happy where I am so there is less need to vent or find an outlet for the energy. It's not like I'm doing anything different - I've seen a couple of movies, read a book [actually in the middle of it], hung out with people but nothing has motivated me to pour my heart out. The thing is...the movies were good - Transformers, Simpsons and Chak De, hanging out was fun also - new people espescially but I have not had that urge to share with the world at large. I seem to be happy sharing it at that moment itself and not need to publicise my opinion to anyone who wants to listen.
This worries me in a way - it means that my life is bigger than my writing! For a lot of people [authors mainly one would suppose..], writing is their life - nothing supersedes that. So again, I don't have a driving passion in life, other than life itself! I don't need to do anything to the exclusion of all else........ even work does not define me. This is scary because it's passion that crosses the line for you from mediocre to brilliant in anything you do. If I lack that passion, how will I ever fulfill what I can? and what's scarier is obviously I don't want to.....
Not that I think that being happy is not enough - it's more than!! I think it's important to have friends, enjoy life, marriage, kids - the works but I think in today's world, you need more definition than that - you need to have your own driving force - your " I need to do this to exist" bit which is seperate from "I need this person to exist" because at the end of the day if all else ceases, you will still have yourself and your "drive" to continue......

Spider Pig Spider pig

This is, by far, the only bloggable thing I've done all week, if you don't count working!! So finally, the weekend after, everyone has seen the movie, I go for it with a mega Simpson's fan who got all the political satire [anyone who knows me, knows I don't get satire or politics so I think that left me out of most of the jokes!!] But anyways....I was quite happy with the mufee. It was very funny and it definitely made you laugh but I have a couple of questions....
          1. Why did Grampa have that vision in church?
          2. Why was the Bono type boy there?
          3. Who is Russ Cargill in real life?
          4. Tom Hanks was in the movie....why?
Other than these minor issues, I found the following really funny:
  • Spider pig Spider pig - does whatever a spider pig does [which is what practically anybody who saw the movie or went near it is singing]
  • Beginning of movie, the itchy and scratchy show with the whole nuclear missile thingy
  • Homer Simpson asking the audience why would you pay money to watch a cartoon movie that comes free on television at home
  • Maggie Simpson always
  • Bart Simpson and his blackboard punishment - will not illegally download this movie
  • Arnie gets paid to lead not read
Other than this, went to the Lemon Grass at Pheonix which is tres nice since it's AC'ed. Fell sick :-( with the viral spiral again which kinda ruined the weekend in a way but hopefully will go see Transformers today and all will be well with life again!

So many things - so little time!

I've just going to list all the stuff that has happened...not in exact chronological order!
  • I got lasik surgery done on Saturday
  • I was no longer blind by Sunday
  • To make up for the loss of glasses, I went shopping [bought 2 tops, green & cream and a pair of shoes, pink & brown in the same shoes]
  • Went to Club IX on Sunday where the waiters outnumbered us 6:1, I'm serious and I remember those days when one could not get a waiter to serve you for hours
  • Revisited Harmony thrice a week and still wasted food
  • Finalised weekend plans for Goa with the Manali Gang and Holiday plans with R
  • Met A & K at Toto's where I drank a small glass of wine which was equal to the price of a whole pitcher
  • for the first time ever, I tried to tell my dad something [I normally let my mom do this job] and he cut me off b4 I began
  • I think I made someone write again
  • Went to Toto's on Thursday and got my best friend back
  • and I defined a new space in my life - semi semi thing thing!!
The thing is the old saying is true - when it rains, it pours! I'm kinda finding it hard to balance my life the way I want it- normally I have the least stress on priorities since I can weigh up everything but in some cases I'm learning, one cannot rely on the past and one needs to look at the future. I hope it gets easier with time since I like the life that I had but I want the life I can see!

Ride the wave!!

This is the first penguin movie I've seen - considering that they currently seem to be 'The' animals to make films on currently. 'Happy Feet', Penguins - a love story [voiced by Amitabh Bachchan - if you please!!].....all part of this niche genre. On the whole I was quite happy with the film - cute story - nicely done but what I found happiest is the thought that if you gotta do something, you gotta have fun doing it - don't do it for the prestige, don't do it because you gotta!! The ending song is the New Radical's "You get what you give - the music in you" - and this is really what the film is about - that you have the music in you - you have the rhythm, the beat, everything - you just have to go with your own music.

Lyrics I like from the song in random order:
But when the night is falling
And you cannot find the light
If you feel your dream is dying
Hold tight
You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give
Four a.m. we ran the miracle mile
We're flat broke
But hey we do it in style
The bad rich
God's flying in for your trial
But when the night is falling
And you cannot find a friend
You feel your tree is breaking
Just bend
You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
The world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give
This whole damn world can fall apart
You'll be ok follow your heart
You're in harms way I'm right behind
Now say you're mine
You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
The world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give
Don't let go
I feel the music in you
Fly high
What's real can't die
You only get what you give
You're gonna get what you give
Just don't be afraid to leave!!

Zodiac - sign not to watch!

So I saw this movie.....Zodiac which was based on the real case files of a serial killer in of course Amrica from the late 60's to the early 80's - the film starred "dreamy eyed" Jake Gyllenhall [as described by MSN Entertainment] and Robert Downey Jr [the same drug addicted one - very nice actor tho] and I would love to tell you why the film was made but I can't. My problem also is that the film is 2 1/2 hrs long - for an English film going nowhere, that's crazy!! Most people know I can't sit still for more than 30 seconds at a time.....during Salaam - E - Ishq - practically a 4 hr movie [I liked it tho], I started fidgeting after 3 hrs and shook the entire row along with me - Friend had to physically restrain me from creating semi-earthquake catastrophe!! Anyway, back to movie.....it started with people getting shot and carried on from there with no purpose. I mean, the case was never solved, a journalist got obsessed with it, got divorced coz of it, another journalist was driven to drink, it ruined a cop's life, and the man who supposedly did it was a pedophile, and liked publicity and so wrote cipher's with the 'Zodiac' alphabet [some vague medieval code - only interesting information in the whole movie], claimed responsibilities for murder's he apparently did not commit, stole his name and symbol from a watch brand.....Ok now it seems like I'm wandering but the movie is the same...there is no definite conclusion so I cannot figure out why they made it and that too, why they made it so long?? There is this episode of friends where Monica makes friend's with the woman who stole her wallet who does all sorts of crazy things coz she claims she lost 2 hrs of her life watching 'Dead Poet's society' [which I feel is quite a sweet movie by the way] - I currently feel the same!

Reality bites!!

Have you ever felt the universe shift under your feet?
My life turned upside down - in the space of a week
What I took for granted, may no longer exist,
what I should not recognize, I can no longer resist.
The more restless I get, The more tied up I feel
the clarity I seek, is hiding under a lilting spiel
how longwill I try to hold on to today dream's
when tomorrow I know, nothing will be as it seems?

Are we on the same page???

Hehehehehe......I think the funda of being on the same page is very entertaining - it lends itself to description/exaggeration so well.
  1. "We are on the same page" is the actual phrase which means everyone has the same understanding of the plot and is at the same point in the plot
  2. "We are not on the same page" - means we are in the same plot but in different points
  3. "Not only are we not on the same page, we are in different books" - different plots also could be in same category/genre
  4. "Different books not in the same library also" - vastly different plots from completely different genres
  5. "On the same page but exiting the book" - heading to pt.4
